Netflix Announces ‘Far Cry: Blood Dragon’ Themed Series [WATCH]
Back before Stranger Things came out and everything started getting set in the 80s, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was one of the best homages to the period ever. The neon-soaked first-person shooter had everything that made action movies great. Synth music, Michael Biehn, neon colors and cheesy dialogue led to a uniquely awesome gameplay experience.
For whatever reason, Ubisoft hasn’t capitalized on the refound love of all things 80s and made Blood Dragon sequel. We may not ever get one but we are getting more stories set in the Blood Dragon universe. During Netflix’s Geek Week, it was announced that the streaming service will release Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, which will be an adult animation. Watch the announcement below.
There’s been no word of a release date quite yet but it likely won’t take long to come out. Netflix has a strong relationship with Ubisoft as they are set to adapt a number of their properties. An animated Blood Dragon series makes a ton of sense. The ridiculous nature of the story and world would be very difficult to translate to live-action without going in the Kung Fury direction. Interestingly enough, Captain Laserhawk will focus more on paying homage to 90s action movies.
While the 80s get most of the credit for being the best time for action cinema, the 90s had many great movies. T2, Point Break, Face Off, Con Air, True Lies and many more came out in the 90s. There will plenty of good stuff for the show to have fun with as the 90s may have been even more ridiculous than the 80s. Adi Shankar, who is well-versed in this space, will serve as creator and executive producer. It doesn’t sound like Biehn is involved in the project, which is unfortunate considering his portrayal of Sergeant Rex “Power” Colt is iconic.
