James Gunn Responds to Superman Controversy From ‘The Suicide Squad’ Trailer

The Suicide Squad is the only DC movie that Warner Bros. has slated for 2021 so there’s a lot of excitement. The first film directed by David Ayer was financially successful but was wrecked by the critics. After James Gunn was briefly fired by Disney for some controversial tweets that resurfaced, DC snagged him up to do a semi-reboot of the Suicide Squad. While there are some actors reprising their roles like Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, the tone and style of the movie look completely different than Ayer film.

Warner Bros. dropped a second trailer for the film on Tuesday and while many fans are excited, some took issue with a line regarding Idris Elba’s Bloodsport. Waller says that Bloodsport put Superman in the ICU with a kryptonite bullet. Fans of Superman took issue with the idea that a mostly unknown coming book character could almost kill the icon.

However, Gunn took to Twitter to show a page from an old comic book that showed that Superman has been put in the hospital by a kryptonite bullet.

At the end of the day, it’s more than likely a throwaway line. DC is never going to make a full movie about Bloodsport almost killing Superman. Overall, The Suicide Squad looks like a fun time so there’s no reason to create a controversy out of thin air.
