5 Characters We Want to See Return in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

With the release of the first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, we’ve got our first look at some of the characters from the old spider man movies who are returning. The most notable was Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock. We also hear JK Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson but it remains to be seen if he’ll appear in the film. There’s been a lot of rumors surrounding who could return in the film but not many have been confirmed.

We’re going to go through the five characters that we’d like to see make a return who haven’t been confirmed. (Spoiler alert: None of them are from the Amazing Spider-Man movies.)

1. Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man

This one has been talked about a lot over the last year or so. While Maguire isn’t everybody’s ideal Peter Parker, he was the first to play the role in live-action. Nobody who ever plays Spider-Man will be as connected to the role as Maguire. It would be a massive crowd-pleaser if he returned, even for just a brief cameo. Maguire hasn’t done much since his days of playing Spider-Man so there’s no reason he can’t make an appearance. The fact that Alfred Molina is back as Doc Oak means that Magure’s Spider-Man must exist in this multiverse. Let’s get our boy back for one last hurrah, especially since Spider-Man 3 was not the best way to go out.

2. Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin

When the first Spider-Man movie came out in 2002, the superhero genre was not nearly as developed as it is now. Despite that, the critically acclaimed Dafoe took the role of Norman Osbourne/Green Goblin seriously. Yes, he hams it up a ton, especially once he becomes Green Goblin but he’s the definitive Green Goblin in live-action. We got a Green Goblin laugh and saw one of his grenades in the trailer. That could mean that will see a bit of Dafoe action.

3. Rosemary Harris’ Aunt May

This is probably wouldn’t be that exciting for most people but Rosemary Harris is the definitive Aunt May. She has a sweet innocence to her and plays the matronly role so well. She’s alive at 93-years-old and it would be great to see her and Maguire have one more moment on screen together.

4. Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman

This will probably be a bit of a surprise but it feels like Denis Caradine doesn’t get enough credit for his Sandman role. Spider-Man 3 is a huge mess but there are moments of brilliance in the film. A few of those moments involve Sandman. His powers are just very visually interesting and could bring something different than what Spider-Man is typically facing in these films.

5. Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane

This could be controversial as not everybody loves Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane but I grew up with these damn movies and I’d like to see her back. Her relationship with Maguire was at the heart of all three movies so if he returns but she doesn’t for No Way Home, it would feel wrong. Just give her a small cameo and we’ll be happy.

There are any number of characters that would be fun to see but there’s only so much they can fit in one film. If I left somebody off the list who you would like to see, please let me know in the comments. I didn’t include anybody from the Amazing Spider-Man movies because I hate those movies with a passion. The first Amazing Spider-Man is the worst movie of all time and the second one isn’t much better. So, sorry to fans of those films but I’d prefer if we collectively pretended like they didn’t exist.
