‘Horizon: Forbidden West’ Delayed to 2022, but ‘Zero Dawn’ Gets Performance Patch

There have been rumors circulating about it for a few weeks now, but we’ve finally received the official word. During the Gamescom Opening Night live event, developer Guerilla Games announced that Horizon: Forbidden West has been delayed until February 18, 2022. The decision comes from a combination of pandemic complications and the studio’s desire to polish the game.

“It’s no surprise that our teams were hugely impacted by the global pandemic; we have been adjusting to new workflows, protocols, and other challenges, while keeping our teams safe and prioritizing a healthy work/life balance,” game director Mathijs de Jonge said on the PlayStation blog.

Horizon: Forbidden West was originally slated for a Holiday 2021 release but the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, as well as workflow changes, inevitably pushed the games release window back. Rumors about the delay have been heavily circulating for a while now, but the news is still a bit disappointing nonetheless. Along with the news of God of War 2’s delay back in June, this means that two of Sony’s most anticipated releases of 2021 have been pushed back until 2022. On the bright side, both studio’s will hopefully have ample time to polish up the games without need for crunch.

For those who’ve yet to play through it or are just looking for an excuse to dive back in, Horizon: Zero Dawn has received a performance patch for the PS5. The patch was announced during Gamescom but went live prior to the announcement. The patch unlocks 60fps, 4K checkerboard resolution, and is free for all PS5 players.

Preorders for Horizon: Forbidden West start on September 2. The game will be available for PS4 and PS5 when it launches.
