Bruce Campbell Drops Major Update Regarding Next ‘Evil Dead’ Movie

Looks like the next installment in “The Evil Dead” franchise is actually going to happen. The movie was announced last year and based on some recent comments from Bruce Campbell, the movie is ready to start shooting soon. According to the star of the first three Evil Dead films, “Evil Dead Rises” will start filming this year in New Zealand, via Knox News.

It’s still too early to have a confirmed release date but we likely won’t be seeing the next Evil Dead movie until next year. The film will be directed by Lee Cronin, who was behind “The Hole in the Ground,” which was an excellent indie horror movie from A24. Cronin was apparently “handpicked” by Sam Raimi, who is the man who created the whole franchise.

Campbell has also given details about what the newest movie is going to look like.

“We’re going to have a heroine, a woman in charge, and she’s going to try and save her family. … The main key with Evil Dead is they’re just regular people who are battling what seems to be a very unstoppable evil, and so that’s where the horror comes from. It’s not someone who’s skilled. They’re not fighting a soldier. [Or] a scientist. They’re not fighting anybody more than your average neighbor. This one is going to be a similar thing.”

The bad news is that Campbell will not be appearing in the film. Though nothing is confirmed, it’s hard to imagine he doesn’t at least have a cameo.
