First Look at ‘Resident Evil Village’s’ World Map

The latest entry to the Resident Evil franchise has had a lot of people talking, especially after the internet went wild for Village’s Lady Dimitrescu. Though the towering vampire has remained at the center of most Resident Evil Village discussions these last few months, Capcom has started to reveal the game’s world map and a new character ahead of release.

IGN got an exclusive sneak peek at the map, showing off the location of Castle Dimitrescu, Heisenberg’s Factory, House Beneviento, and Moreau’s Reservoir. Other points of interest, such as the windmills and the bridge, are scattered around the map. A strange sea monster appears to reside within the lake toward the bottom of the map, as well as a winged, dragon-like creature flying above Castle Dimitrescu.

We’ve also received our first look at Mother Miranda, an important character in Resident Evil Village. The screenshot shows a portrait of Mother Miranda, seemingly portrayed as a religious figure of some kind. According to IGN, game director Morimasa Sato said that she is “a presence worshipped by the villagers,” but that’s about all we know so far. Sato would rather the players learn more about her through playing the game, but that “Mother Miranda and the inner side of her character are extremely important factors in the game.” Needless to say, my interest is piqued.

There’s plenty of hype around Resident Evil Village, and for good reason. Capcom’s previous game, Resident Evil 7, was a critically acclaimed hit that saw a return to form for the series. From what we’ve seen so far, Resident Evil Village looks to improve on the foundation of its predecessor. If you’ve managed to get your hands on a PS5, there’s a playable demo currently available for download. If not, Resident Evil Village releases on May 7th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia.
