‘Days Gone 2’ Pitch Suggested Co-Op Mode & Shared Universe

It seems that Bend Studio had big plans for the rejected Days Gone 2 pitch. Following the Bloomberg report that Sony wouldn’t continue forward with the franchise, Jeff Ross, the former game director for Days Gone, went on to talk about some of the ideas he had for the sequel during a livestream on David Jaffe’s YouTube channel.

Ross revealed that a cooperative mode and a shared universe would’ve been a big part of Days Gone 2, a feature he initially wanted in the original game. Ross explained that he envisioned the co-op mode to “take this world that you’ve built, and all these assets and systems, and repurpose them for some sort of similarly themed multiplayer version of this universe. So [it] would be guys like Deacon trying to survive, building up a clubhouse or a crew.”

The pitch sounds like it could’ve added another layer of enjoyment to the sequel, all while expanding upon the world of the Days Gone franchise. While it’s exciting to hear all of Ross’ ideas for Days Gone 2, the news doesn’t make it seem like the game has much of a future. During the livestream, Ross stressed that he couldn’t confirm the game’s status due to a non-disclosure agreement. Additionally, Ross no longer works at Bend Studio but addressed that it “had nothing to do with the status of the sequel or anything else that the studio was doing.”

Though we’ve still yet to receive the official word about a sequel to Days Gone, I wouldn’t get my hopes up. Along with the rejected Days Gone 2 pitch, the same Bloomberg report also suggested that Sony was developing a remake to 2013’s The Last of Us. If true, it’s a rather questionable decision seeing as the original holds up even to this day. Sony might be looking to hitch a ride with the highly anticipated Last of Us show being produced by HBO. I personally think that a remake is unnecessary, but I’d welcome it if only to bring the beloved hit to the PS5.
