‘Venom’ Sequel Gets Delayed Until Later in Year
While it was a critical failure, there’s no denying that the first “Venom” movie was an overwhelming success for Sony. It made over $850 million at the box office against a $100 million budget. Even the most optimistic fan of the character couldn’t have seen that coming.
It didn’t take Sony long to greenlight a sequel called “Venom: Let There Be Carnage.” It was originally supposed to come out this summer but it looks like it will be getting delayed. On Wednesday, it was announced that the film will now come out on September 17, 2021.

That’s a pretty long delay but a lot of big movies have been getting delayed lately for obvious reasons. The Venom sequel will see Tom Hardy return as the titular character and Woody Harelson will be playing the role of Carnage. Interestingly enough, Ruben Fleischer is not directing the sequel. Stepping into the director’s chair is Andy Serkis of “Lord of the Rings” and “Planet of the Apes” fame. This won’t be Serkis’ first foray into directing. He most recently was at the helm of “Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle,” which wasn’t well-received but not terribly reviewed. It sits at 52% on Rotten Tomatoes. It will be fascinating to see what he does with a big property like Venom.
