Tom Hardy Set to Star in Netflix Action Thriller From ‘The Raid’ Director
Action cinema was hit with some of its best news in a while on Friday. According to Deadline, Tom Hardy has signed on to star in Gareth Evans’ action thriller “Havoc,” which will premiere on Netflix. For those unfamiliar with Evans, he’s the acclaimed director behind “The Raid” and its sequel. He was also behind the Netflix horror film “Apostle.”
Havoc will be his first action film since “The Raid 2” came out in 2014. Deadline also dropped a synopsis for the movie:
The story is set after a drug deal gone wrong, when a bruised detective must fight his way through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s estranged son, while unraveling a deep web of corruption and conspiracy that ensnares his entire city.
That plot sounds like it’s right in Evans’ wheelhouse and it’ll be fascinating to see how he pulls off a big action movie outside of Indonesia.
Tom Hardy was the “it guy” in Hollywood for a few years but he’s been taking things easy lately. “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” is the only movie of his that is slated to come out in 2021. Hopefully, Havoc will represent his return to starring in good movies. There’s no word on a release date yet.
