‘The Suicide Squad’ Review-Bombed by Fans, James Gunn Responds
Movies fans are a weird bunch. Of the weird movie fans, DC fans are the weirdest. I can say that because I fashion myself a DC apologist. The newest DC movie on the docket is The Suicide Squad directed by James Gunn.
For years, DC has had to live in the shadows of Marvel as critics bash the former while praising the latter. DC looks like it’s about to get a huge win with The Suicide Squad as it’s currently sitting at 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, fans of the studio just can’t handle success. Apparently, fans are planning to review-bomb once the movie comes out. Review-bombing is when fans go on sites like Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb and leave poor reviews for a film without seeing it. It’s unclear as to why fans are doing this but Gunn has responded to the issue with class.
I’ll live – stuff like this means nothing in the big picture. (And important to point out most the SnyderCut fans have been supportive, it’s only a few who feel it’s worthwhile spending their time doing stuff like this.)

Gunn is correct. Review-bombing The Suicide Squad will have little to no impact as to whether or not the film is a success. What’s confusing is why fans are going after the movie. It could have to do with the fact that David Ayer (director of the first Suicide Squad movie) has made it clear that he has an original cut of the film that is closer to his original vision. The “Ayer Cut” is something that many fans would like to see and could be unhappy with Warner Bros. for screwing the director in favor of Gunn.
The review-bombing of The Suicide Squad could also have to do with the fact that Gunn is very politically left-wing on social media. Regardless, the whole notion of giving a movie you haven’t seen a poor review is idiotic and not really proving a point to anybody. If you don’t like the movie, that’s fine, but it seems like your effort could be better used elsewhere.
