Fans React to Record-Breaking 12th Re-Release of ‘Skyrim’
It probably shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody but Bethesda is still not done with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The highly successful RPG was released back in 2011 and immediately became a cultural phenomenon. The game has spawned thousands of parodies and memes. 10 years later, we still haven’t received a follow-up in The Elder Scrolls series but Bethesda is still milking Skyrim.
Bethesda announced recently that Skyrim will be getting a next-gen upgrade to correspond with the 10th anniversary of the game. That makes it 12 times the game has been re-released. It was previously tied with Resident Evil 4 for most re-releases but it now stands on its own.
Skyrim just overtook Resident Evil 4 on re-releases

It’s hard to imagine that anybody who wants to hasn’t played Skyrim yet but there will no doubt be many people looking to play the game on the current generation of consoles. Fans had a field day with the news that we’re getting another Skyrim release.

Now, you can’t really blame Bethesda. Todd Howard himself said back in 2018 that they’d stop re-releasing the game if people would stop buying it. I personally have three separate copies of the game (Xbox 360, PS4 and Nintendo Switch), so I can’t really judge. However, it would be nice if the studio would actually finish up Elder Scroll VI. It’s been a decade now and there haven’t been many updates on the franchise. At this point, it doesn’t look like there will be one anytime soon.
