‘Saints Row’ Developer Responds to Intense Backlash for Reboot
After Saints Row 4, it appeared that the franchise was dead in the water. However, Volition has decided to completely reboot the series and even dropped a trailer at Gamescom. Unfortunately for the studio, fans did not take a liking to the reboot. Based on the trailer, there appears to be little that connects it to prior Saints Row games.
While not many people liked the fourth game, most fans would’ve been happy with something that resembled the second or third game. Instead, we’re likely to get something entirely different.
The backlash has been loud but the Saints Row developers are not “backing down.” Responding to a “hater” on Twitter, the Saints Row account made it clear that they are not moving off their vision and excepted a strong reaction to the game.
We are not backing down on this game. We get it, it’s new and it’s a shock reaction to a reboot like no other. The gif was supposed to convey that.

If Volition wanted to make a different type of game, they probably just shouldn’t have called it Saints Row. Based on this Twitter exchange, it doesn’t sound like the upcoming reboot will be anything like the past games. That could end up being a good thing but over recent years, there’s been a massive influx of games that have offered their own interpretation of the Grand Theft Auto model. We don’t need another Watch Dogs game. Saints Row is its own unique thing and should stay that way. Obviously, Volition deserves the benefit of the doubt until the new game is released but early signs aren’t great.
