‘Mortal Kombat’ Star Has Signed on for 4 Sequels

To American audiences, Joe Taslim is about to be a new commodity. However, fans of Indonesian action cinema are already massive fans. He was one of the stars of The Raid and was the lead in The Night Come For Us, both of which are excellent action films.

Taslim has finally caught his big break as he’ll be starring as the villain Sub-Zero in the latest film adaptation of Mortal KombatVideo game movies don’t have the best track record of success, but as long as a lot of people watch the movie, we could be seeing a whole lot more of Taslim. According to the actor, he’s signed on for four more sequels if the first one is a hit.

“If this one’s successful, maybe we do more,” Taslim told Variety.

It’s standard for studios to sign on potential franchise stars to contracts that span over multiple movies. If Taslim is impressive in Mortal Kombat, it could open up the door for him to be a much bigger star. If that happens, Warner Bros. will be glad that they already have him locked up.

In addition to Taslim’s revelation about his contract, he also dropped some information about his experience playing Mortal Kombat when he was younger.

“I was born in South Sumatra. We were poor so I didn’t have the console because it’s expensive. I went to my friend’s house every day to play the game. But you get there and there are like 10 kids lining up. Who wins keeps playing … so it takes me to get to my part like 40 minutes.”
