First Reactions to ‘Black Widow’ Appear Online Ahead of Release
2020 represented the first year since 2009 that a new Marvel Cinematic Universe movie wasn’t released. Black Widow was supposed to come out but was delayed due to the pandemic. In 2021, the studio has a lot more to release. They’ve already released a number of big TV shows and will have four movies released before the end of the year.
The first film set to hit theaters is the aforementioned Black Widow. It will be Scarlett Johanson’s first opportunity to lead a Marvel film and there’s a ton of excitement around it. Though the movie won’t be out for a few more weeks, a number of critics have seen the film and offered brief reactions.
We finally have a solo 'Black Widow' movie and it does not disappoint, even though it is a decade late.
The phrase "better late than never" really does apply to this film. #BlackWidow pic.twitter.com/Z2OWDjuWL1

#BlackWidow kicks ass. It surpassed my expectations. Shortland gives Johansson the tools to showcase Romanoff on a whole new level. Only pausing to showcase the humanity, the action and the comedic notes are on point. Florence Pugh nails it. Get ready for the Marvel Pughniverse! pic.twitter.com/otmuaEAeyU

I wish we had more solo time with Natasha and I still can't help but think that a Black Widow movie should have happened years ago, especially considering the timeframe this movie falls in. Regardless, I was pleasantly surprised by #BlackWidow! The fight scenes were 🔥 pic.twitter.com/GR7XwgGqB0

#BlackWidow is exactly what fans have been waiting for! Apart from some overly long action scenes that disrupt its pacing, the film is elevated by newcomers Rachel Weisz, David Harbour, and Florence Pugh – whose humour and chemistry shake up the standard Marvel fare 🎬 pic.twitter.com/jDWOLRquPa

#BlackWidow was exactly what I'd hoped for: a story about family and sisters that deepened Natasha's character development and provided some really fun fight sequences. Florence Pugh as Yelena is the star, bringing lots of charm, humor, and emotion. pic.twitter.com/RW7YoX3De8

Based on these reactions, it sounds like Black Widow will be everything fans have been hoping for. However, I’m personally not a fan of these types of early reactions by critics. You have to take them with a grain of salt as the critics want to keep getting early access to Marvel movies so they aren’t exactly going to give bad reviews and piss off Disney.
The movie may be great but these brief reviews don’t mean much. Interestingly enough, the Black Widow character seems to be the least interesting part of the film. David Harbour’s turn as Red Guardian looks like it will steal the show while the reliable Florence Pugh should also be a standout. At worst, Black Widow will likely just be a serviceable Marvel film.
