Amazon’s MMORPG ‘New World’ Has Been Delayed Again

Amazon Games Orange County’s upcoming MMORPG New World has been delayed for a third time ahead of its August 31 release date. The game will now launch on September 28 instead.

In a tweet released by the developer, the team stated how pleased they were with the support the game received during its closed beta. The decision to push back the release date by another month was made as a result of the feedback they received. “We want New World’s launch to be a smooth and fun experience for all players, and that means making some improvements based on what you encountered during Closed Beta,” the developer said. “So we’re going to take a few extra weeks to smash bugs, improve stability, and polish the game.”

New World was originally set to launch back in May 2020 and has faced several delays since then. While the Covid-19 pandemic played a significant role in the game’s delay, the reaction players had to the game also impacted it. The game received criticism during its closed alpha test for the lack of middle and endgame content, and again during its closed beta for its uninspired quests and frustrating grind. To top it all off, the game reportedly bricked high-end graphics cards like RTX 3090s. What was Amazon’s response to the issue? Implementing a framerate cap.

Despite that, the closed beta drew in more than a million players at a total of 25 million hours played. While it’s a shame that the game has been delayed yet again, the extra time will hopefully allow the developers to fix the issues players had with certain aspects of the game. A more polished game is well worth the added delay. After all, we all remember what happened the last time a big game was released too early.

New World launches globally on PC on September 28.
