Amazon Purchases Studio Behind James Bond for Massive Price Tag
In an announcement on Wednesday, an Amazon executive dropped massive news that’s bound to shake up the film industry. The company is purchasing legendary studio MGM in a deal worth $8.45 billion, via BBC. The most notable property that MGM has a stake in is the James Bond franchise. However, Eon Productions has control over how Bond movies are distributed so Amazon doesn’t have too much say with the franchise.
Regardless, this is big news and gives Amazon control over a wide array of older classics like RoboCop and Rocky. The deal will also lead to Amazon taking over Epix, which has a wide catalog of movies and shows. Epix also has a deal with Paramount that will allow them to stream Mission Impossible 7 and A Quiet Place II after they run on Paramount+.
This is Amazon’s biggest acquisition of a film studio yet and now makes them major players in the film business. As the company grows, it will be very interesting to see if they attempt to acquire other studios.
