‘Green Lantern’ Star Sounds off on New HBO Max Series
Despite having a set of very visually interesting characters and ideas, Warner Bros. has had a difficult time getting Green Lantern to work. They tried with the 2011 Ryan Reynolds film but that ended up being one of the biggest comic book movie disasters of the 21st century. The studio has decided that TV would be the best medium for the characters as they are hard at work on an HBO Max series simply title Green Lantern.
The show will not focus on Hal Jordan, who is the most popular of the Green Lanterns. So far, we know that Guy Gardner and Alan Scott will appear. We also know that Sinestro is slated to appear but it remains to be seen if he will be a Green Lantern or Yellow Lantern at the start of the series. Finn Wittrock is slated to star as Gardner and he had a chance to talk about the series. He referred to it as “not your average superhero story” while also giving some more insight.
“It is really cool how sprawling a storyline it is,” Wittrock told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s pretty epic. It spans time and space and has something for everyone. It’s not your average superhero story.”
Wittrock has been doing his fair share of research and has even done a deep dive on the Reynolds film.
“It definitely was something that was in my head,” he said of the film. “In some ways, it’s almost better. I think it offers a chance to reinvent the whole thing and you’re not going to have… I mean, no offense to the movie. It is what it is, but you’re not going to have people who are dying for the creation of that movie. [The show] can be its own new interpretation.”
There’s still no release date for the show but it seems like that it will actually happen. There’s been a number of false starts regarding Green Lantern but this HBO Max series appears to have traction.
