‘Rainbow Six Extraction’ Receives Cinematic Trailer & Release Date

During E3’s Ubisoft Forward conference, the publisher released a cinematic and a gameplay trailer for the upcoming Rainbow Six Extraction, a co-operative PvE spin on the popular tactical shooter. Ubisoft also confirmed a September 16, 2021 release date for the game.

The cinematic showed off some familiar Operators from Siege as they fight back against an evolving alien threat known as Archaens. Though the plot of the game wasn’t elaborated on in too much detail, it appears that the Archaens have rapidly spread across the globe, taking control of San Francisco in the process.

Shortly after the cinematic premiered, Ubisoft showed off a lengthy gameplay “deep dive” that revealed how missions will carry out in Extraction. The overview showcased some of the enemies you’ll come across–such as the explosive Breacher or the immobilizing Rooter–and the gadgets you’ll have at your disposal to fight them off.

As players progress through missions, they’ll have to choose between continuing forward or extracting early. Continuing the mission beyond the extraction points will increase the difficulty but also allow you to gather more resources, so players will have to carefully weigh the risks and rewards of each scenario.

Rainbow Six Extraction will be playable co-operatively or solo and will support cross-play between all platforms on Day One. Ubisoft also announced that there will be rewards for owners of Rainbow Six Siege.

Extraction was originally announced back in 2019 under the name Rainbow Six Quarantine. While the name seemed interesting with the initial concept of mutating aliens, Ubisoft felt that it was no longer appropriate given the state of the covid-19 pandemic. Back in February 2021, the company discussed changing the name of the project and only recently unveiled its new title. Now that we’ve gotten to see some of the gameplay, Extraction seems to fit much better with the goal of rescuing people and extracting them out of dangerous situations.

Rainbow Six Extraction releases for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC on September 16, 2021.
