Netflix Drops First Look of ‘The Witcher’ Season 2
Live-action adaptations of video games have a long reputation of mostly being terrible. Despite the first season of The Witcher having some really mediocre aspects to it, it was mostly a success. It’s already one of Netflix’s most popular shows and should only get better after learning from some big stumbles in season one.
The second season has already wrapped production so we’re just waiting on news of a release date. In the meantime, Netflix dropped a short video featuring the first look of season two.

The clip centers solely around Ciri, who should be one of the most important characters in the series going forward. She’s a great character in the games but was lacking in the show due to muddled storytelling. How she develops as a character could make or break The Witcher. Freya Allen, who portrays Ciri, appears to be a solid actor but she’s too unassuming and meager. Perhaps season two will make her more of a force to be reckoned with. The relationship between Ciri and Geralt should be at the center of the show going forward. Henry Cavill was great in the starring role in season one and there’s no reason he shouldn’t continue to embody Geralt to near perfection.
As far as the release date is concerned, it’s hard to know when season two might come out. Due to the fact that Witchers are monster hunters, there should be a ton of special effects work that needs to be done. Filming wrapped back in April so they’ve already had some time to work on things. It’s possible we’re looking at a late 2021 release date. With Stranger Things season four not coming out until 2022, Netflix would likely hope to have one of their more popular series drop a new season in 2021. That could end up being The Witcher.
