First Reactions to ‘Loki’ Series Appear Online Ahead of Release

After dominating theaters for over a decade, Marvel has gone hard at trying to take over the TV space. Wandavision and Falcon and the Winter Solider have been huge hits for the studio and they aren’t even close to slowing down. The next big release is the Loki series starring Tom Hiddleston.

This show has the chance to be the biggest hit yet as Loki was the villain of the first Avengers movie and has always been considered one of the most popular movie characters. Ahead of its June 9 release, Marvel made the first couple of episodes of the show available to a limited number of critics. Based on the early reactions, the show is going to be another hit.

Now, take these reactions with a grain of salt. You never hear negative reviews coming from these as the critics have a vested interest in continuing to get early access to this content. Seriously, when’s the last time critics got early access to anything Disney-related and just crapped all over it? All in all, the show will likely be what everybody expects with Marvel these days.

Kate Herron of Sex Education was hired to direct all six episodes of the first season of Loki. This is her first foray into big-budget filmmaking but it sounds like she was able to do enough to keep the fans happy. Marvel has always liked to pluck obscure filmmakers away from the indie or television world and put them in the director’s chair. It’s a recipe that has worked out well for them in the past. However, it’s always felt like a strategy that exists so that the studio can essentially control every aspect of the production without having to worry about a director with clout giving them pushback. Time will tell if the gamble on Herron ends up working out well through all six episodes.
