Joe Manganiello Tweet Causes Deathstroke to Dominate Twitter
One of the coolest DC characters who has never gotten his time to shine in a live-action film is Deathstroke. He’s been outshined by Deadpool, who was originally a parody of the character. That doesn’t mean that there couldn’t be an awesome film featuring the character. Manu Bennett did a solid job portraying the character in the “Arrow” TV show, but it’s past time the iconic character gets a big-budget film.
Though he didn’t have a big role in “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” Joe Manganiello did get a little bit more screentime as Deathstroke. With the SnyderVerse likely at its end, that could mean that he never gets to play the character again. However, that’s not going to stop him from trying. Manganiello is part of the Restore the SynderVerse movement and he took to Twitter to plead with HBO Max to make a Deathstroke film or big-budget series.

All this demand for a character that only had 6 lines in the Snyder Cut. The fans want it and Manganiello wants it. #DeathstrokeHBOMax #RestoreTheSnyderVerse pic.twitter.com/LaLEydARRJ

There has to be a Deathstroke film eventually. The biggest question is if whether or not Manganiello will star.
‘The Raid’ Director Was Once Linked to Deathstroke Film
One of the most exciting pieces of news that DC fans were hit with in recent years was when Gareth Evans was reportedly involved in a Deathstroke movie. The director of both “Raid” movies has perfected close combat action in film and his influence is everywhere. While there was a lot of momentum around the idea of him making Deathstroke, it doesn’t look like it will happen anytime soon.
“I was actually quite enthused and excited about [Deathstroke] back in the day, when it was first pitched to me,” Evans told Yahoo last year. “I met with them, and talked to them about it, and was certainly attached to it at a certain point.”
Evans even went so far as to speak with Manganiello.
“I’ve spoken to Joe Manganiello, who was attached to star as Deathstroke,” Evans said. “I spoke to him a while back, and we both lamented the fact that it didn’t happen. But yeah, I don’t really have much more than that, in terms of anything lately on it.”
Perhaps this new movement will reignite the possibility of Evans making a Deathstroke film but it’s not likely.
Evans Explained What His Deathstroke Movie Would Be Like
Evans has an amazing track record right now. Both “Raid” films are masterful action movies and “Apostle” was a solid foray into horror. He explained what his Deathstroke film would’ve looked like and it sounds amazing.
“The plan was, I wanted to tell something that would be a lean story, that would be kind of an origin of that character,” Evans said. “Something that felt like it could be 100 minutes or 110 minutes long, max – not to go over the two hour period with it. Back then, I was massively influenced by the noir films coming out of South Korea, so that was my pitch. I was like, these films are amazing: the texture, and the tones of colors, the grit and the aggression of them is super interesting to use to tell Deathstroke‘s story.”
Evans admitted that he’s not a big comic book guy but he’s a big fan of Deathstroke.
“I’ll be the first one to admit it, I’m not a massive comic book or superhero fan, but something about Deathstroke interested me. I did some reading into it – not enough to make real hardcore fanboys happy – but I tried my best to consume as much as I could in the time that I was on it, for a bit.”
