WB Halting Development on 2 Major DC Projects

Despite the success of “Zack Synder’s Justice League,” it appears Warner Bros. will be taking a measured approach when it comes to DC adaptations going forward. They had a large number of movies on the slate but it looks like they’ll be aiming for quality over quantity. “New Gods” directed by Ava DuVernay and “The Trench” were two movies being developed but Warner Bros. announced that they are putting a stop to them.

“As part of our DC slate, some legacy development titles including New Gods and The Trench will not be moving forward. We thank our partners Ava DuVernay, Tom King, James Wan, and Peter Safran for their time and collaboration during this process and look forward to our continued partnership with them on other DC stories. The projects will remain in their skillful hands if they were to move forward in the future,” via The Hollywood Reporter.

“New Gods” would’ve been a movie featuring some lesser-known DC characters created by Jack Kirby. “The Trench” was going to be a horror spin-off of “Aquaman” that James Wan was developing. Considering the fact that DC doesn’t have films for some of its biggest characters, it’s not too much of a surprise that these more obscure properties are getting put on the back burner for now.
