Are ‘Twilight Princess’ and ‘Wind Waker’ Headed to Switch?

This February marks the 35th anniversary of “The Legend of Zelda,” and while many fans have gone and paid tribute to the beloved franchise, Nintendo has kept relatively quiet about its future. The most recent Nintendo Direct announced an Expansion Pass for “Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity,” as well as an HD release of “The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword” for the Switch. Many fans were hoping for further news about the Breath of the Wild sequel but series producer Eiji Aonuma revealed that they don’t have much information to share yet, but that we should be expecting some official news at some point later this year.

To sate our appetite until then, the re-release of “The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD” will be out on July 16th. While some fans are excited to see the game coming to the Switch, many voiced disappointment about losing out on another potential “Zelda” port. According to a tweet by VGC’s Andy Robinson, we may not be completely out of luck. Robinson believes that “Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are 100% coming this year.”

It’s hard to say if Robinson is being optimistic or not, but it’s not a completely unfounded assumption. Both “Wind Waker” and “Twilight Princess” already received HD remasters for the Wii U, so the groundwork is already there. With the opportunity to introduce another generation to some of the greatest games in the series, it seems hard to believe that Nintendo would pass this up. Until we receive official confirmation though, it’s only wishful thinking for now. As with news about the Breath of the Wild sequel, Nintendo might be waiting until E3 season to reveal more of what they’ve got in store.
