Zack Snyder’s Next Film Coming to Netflix, Inspired by ‘Star Wars’

Fresh off of the success of Army of the Dead, it didn’t take long for Zack Snyder to find his next project. After a longtime partnership with Warner Bros., the filmmaker doesn’t seem to have much interest in working with them again. He’s now set his sights on Netflix.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder’s next film will be produced by Netflix and it will be his first foray into Sci-Fi.

“Snyder has set his next project, an epic sci-fi fantasy titled Rebel Moon that he is co-writing and will direct and produce, for Netflix, the home of his most recent hit, Army of the Dead. And it re-teams the filmmaker with many of the creative colleagues of his past original ventures,” wrote Borys Kit of THR.

Rebel Moon is said to be inspired by the films of legendary Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa and Star Wars. There was talk years ago that Snyder was planning to make a Star Wars version of Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. Recently, Snyder revealed that the film isn’t happening but a similar film could happen without utilizing the Star Wars IP. It remains to be seen if this is that very same movie.

Snyder has become a hot name in Hollywood again. After the releases of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, the filmmaker wasn’t as sought after as he once was. With the Snyder Cut and Army of the Dead being big hits, it’s clear the director has hit his stride again. Rebel Moon will no doubt be highly anticipated whenever it is released.

“This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan,” Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out.”
