Tom Hardy Reveals Studio’s Thoughts on ‘Venom’ Sequel, Talks Possible 3rd Film
After becoming one of the biggest names in Hollywood and popping up in a ton of movies, Tom Hardy has taken a step back in recent years. He’s been on one film since 2018’s Venom but it looks like he’s getting back to appearing in movies. The next film on the docket for the star is Venon: Let There Be Carnage. Though the first film was critically panned, it was a huge box office success.
If the sequel can rake in the money while improving in quality, there will likely be more movies planned. In fact, Hardy has already started thinking about the third film but knows what needs to happen for it to get greenlit.
“I’m thinking about the third movie as well, because I think you need to write that at the same time,” Hardy told Esquire magazine. “A third won’t be greenlit until the second is successful, but the studio [was] really, really pleased with number two.”
Based on how successful Venom was, there’s a strong chance the sequel also brings Sony a bunch of money. If not, Hard will be fine as he’s got several movies on the slate, including Havoc directed by Gareth Evans of The Raid fame. However, Hardy would like to do a third Venom film at some point.
“I would be remiss if I wasn’t trying to steer any kind of connectivity,” Hardy said. “I wouldn’t be doing the job if I wasn’t awake and open to any opportunity or eventuality or be excited by that. Obviously, that’s a large canyon to leap, to be bridged by one person alone, and it would take a much higher level of diplomacy and intelligence, sitting down and talking, to take on an arena such as that.
