Quentin Tarantino Wants Adam Driver & Kurt Russell for ‘First Blood’ Remake

Though the character of John Rambo is associated with over-the-top and cheesy action, First Blood isn’t anything like the sequels. Sure, it’s got its fair share of action but the movie is much more of a character study than the other films. It also happens to be significantly better than any of the other Rambo films.

It’s one of Sylvester Stallone’s best performances before he became a caricature of himself. To me, First Blood is one of the great action movies of the 80s. However, a certain Quentin Tarantino believes he can improve on the original. How would he do that? The Academy Award-winning filmmaker had a chance to explain in an interview with MovieWeb.

“If I just wanted to make a good movie, that I knew would be good, I would take David Morrell’s novel for First blood and do the novel,” Tarantino said. “Not the movie that was made out of First Blood. I would do the novel, and Kurt Russell would play the sheriff and (Adam Driver) would play Rambo.”

He also noted that he was a big fan of the dialogue in the book.

There’s no doubt it would be fascinating to see Tarantino take on a remake of such an iconic film. The casting choices of Driver and Russell sound excellent, as well. That said, Tarantino has made it clear that he’s got one more movie in him before he retires. A remake of First Blood doesn’t seem like something that he’d want to end his career with unless he truly believes that it could be that much better than the original film.
