‘Metroid Dread’ Is Exactly What Franchise Has Needed for Years

If you’re like me, you were very disappointed when Metroid Prime 4 had to completely restart production. Nintendo was years along on the project and decided to hit the reset button. It was a controversial decision but you have to admire Nintendo’s commitment to quality.

While the wait for Metroid Prime 4 continues, Nintendo made a great call to hold over fans of the franchise. Earlier in the year, they surprisingly announced Metroid Dread. The game is a return to the original formula that popularized Metroid decades ago. At Gamescom, Nintendo released a second trailer for the game that should have fans excited.

Obviously, fans are still clamoring for Metroid Prime 4, but this game looks awesome. Side-scrolling action is making a bit of a comeback in recent years and this looks like it will be one of the best examples of how good a game can be in that format. The last Metroid game we got was back in 2017 for the Nintendo 3DS. Metroid Returns was essentially a remake of the first game. We haven’t gotten a notable Metroid game since Metroid: Other M in 2010.

Metroid Dread appears to be the type of game that fans of the franchise have been longing for. Hopefully, it can live up to all the hype surrounding the game.
