There’s been speculation that Snyder’s Justice League could be released as a miniseries but according to IGN, HBO Max has confirmed that it will be a single full-length film. The movie is set to have a four-hour runtime, which is two hours longer than the maligned theatrical cut. For a while, it didn’t look like the Snyder Cut was going to happen but they were able to pull it off.
Will the ‘Snyder Cut’ Be Any Good?
The theatrical release of the Justice League was a disaster. Everybody knows, at this point, that Joss Whedon was hired to take over the production after Snyder had to step away. He did extensive reshoots that led to the disjointed disaster that was released to the public. I’ll be honest, I didn’t completely hate the theatrical cut. There were some fun moments but overall, the movie was a huge mess.
Now, Snyder isn’t exactly known for making clean movies. However, there’s no way it will be worse than the theatrical cut. Snyder is not a bad filmmaker, despite what the more pretentious variety would like you to believe. He’s sunk a lot of time into this project and wouldn’t do that if he knew it was going to be another disaster. Honestly, we’ll probably be getting a very different Justice League movie. It doesn’t take a film scholar to know that Whedon and Snyder have vastly different sensibilities. It was always a weird idea to replace the latter with the former.
In all likelihood, this new cut of the Justice League will be dumb fun. It’s not going to be anything mind-blowing. There’s only so much that Snyder can change from Whedon’s cut but he should be able to change it enough to get his vision out into the world. Similar to how the director’s cut of “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” changed a lot of perspectives on that film, the same will likely happen with Justice League.
