‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Seeing Major Box Office Success Ahead of U.S. Release
Last year, many big blockbusters had to be released straight to streaming with movie theater closures all over the world. While “Godzilla vs. Kong” will soon be released on HBO Max, it’s already turning out to be a good moneymaker. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film has already made $121.8 million at the foreign box office. Its biggest mark has been left in China where it has grossed $70.3 million so far.
This is a promising sign for movies as there’s been a lot of uncertainty over the last year. If “Godzilla vs. Kong” is a big hit in theaters, that could signal to the world that blockbusters are back. While the early signs are good, we’ll have to wait until the movie is released in the U.S. to get a good grasp on how successful it is. Even with how much it’s making overseas, if the movie fails in the states, it will probably be deemed a flop. This will be a very interesting test to see if there’s still interest in going to theaters when people can just stream a big movie at home.
